It's another busy month at West Rise starting with activities to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III. All the children were invited to wear red, white and blue to school and to join in lots of class activities related to the event. They also attended a special Coronation assembly where they enjoyed learning all about the King and the Coronation. At lunchtime they could be seen wearing the crown's they had made earlier. A fun day was had by all.

Also this month the reception children have been focusing their learning on Marvellous Minibeasts! They have been exploring the stories ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and ‘Mad about Minibeasts’' and have also be reading non-fiction books and poems linked to minibeasts. All the children enjoyed going on a minibeast hunt with their magnifying glasses and identifying and recording what creatures they had found. They have also been watching caterpillars hatch into butterflies, as well as exploring and building different minibeast habitats. In art, they have all had a lovely time designing and making their own minibeast using clay, lots of messy fun!

Year one have been busy planting vegetables and flowers in pots and containers outside in the playground, they have been learning about how the different plants grow and how to look after them. In class the children have enjoyed planting mustard cress seeds in containers, watering the seeds and watching them grow!

Year 2 have been looking at our environment and have used a variety of art such as pictures and posters showing how we live affects our planet, together with the impact of environmental factors such as pollution and climate change.  They have also been sorting recycling in a fun way during P.E. by having a recycling relay race. The children have also been enjoying studying the artist Henri Rousseau and making their own collages in his style, using mixed media, they have created some wonderful artwork! Lots of preparation for the year two SATS has been taking place under the guise of Secret Agent Training to keep it fun and low-key. All the children have written words of encouragement for each other and used these to create a motivation board in the classroom.
