About Us

Hello, I’m Caroline the Nursery Manager and I’m delighted to be able to tell you all about our childcare and education at West Rise Nursery. Choosing a nursery in which you're happy to leave your child is never an easy thing to do.  You will be looking for a nursery which your child will look forward to going to and where he or she will feel at home, have fun, make friends and learn through play.  You want to know that your child will feel secure and cared for while you're away.

At West Rise Nursery we feel sure that once you've looked at the information here, you will think it's worth coming to visit us in person to see whether we are the nursery for you and your child.

West Rise Nursery is more than just a Nursery.  From the minute you walk in the door, you are stepping into a magical place of learning, care and excellence.

The Nursery presents as a stunning and stimulating place where children can immerse themselves in learning through play and developing their understanding and appreciation of the world around them.  We teach the children about wellbeing and their brains, encouraging a culture of mindfulness and gratitude in all that we do.

We are an East Sussex County Council and OfSTED approved Nursery and come under the West Rise Community Infant School ‘umbrella’.  At West Rise Nursery we pride ourselves on our warmth, high standards of professionalism and exciting early years education.   We are able to provide places for up to 30 children, we welcome children from two years to four years, 5 days a week from 8am until 5pm and we are able to offer sessional or full day care, term-time only.  We receive funding for children for up to 15 hours from the term after the child turns three and we are also able to offer some two year old funded places.

We take huge pride in providing a welcoming environment, where each child's happiness and well-being is the absolute priority. We help your child to grow in self-confidence as they learn, develop friendships and start to prepare for school.  Our nursery is friendly, fun, secure and stimulating and the children are at the heart of everything we do. At West Rise Nursery we place a real emphasis on ensuring the children experience both the indoor and outdoor environment to ensure that high quality learning experiences can take place.  The children have access to the outdoor area all year round.

As part of the Early Years Foundation Stage and in common with all OfSTED registered settings we are regularly inspected and proud of our most recent inspection report, we are very fortunate that the West Rise governing board provides additional support and guidance for our work.

Our Nursery is like a family, we have some young members of staff just starting their career with us and other members who have been working together in the Nursery for 13 years some for 25 years! Their dedication for working with young children is seen in everything they do, for us this is more than a job it is a passion. Each member of our staff have an active role in the care and education of all children and your child will work with all staff within the Nursery.  In addition when your child starts at nursery they will be allocated a keyworker.

Wellbeing

At West Rise Nursery in line with West Rise Community Infant School we place wellbeing as primary importance.  We introduce aspects of positive psychology such as growth mindset, mindfulness, self-regulation, gratitude and optimism. As a MindUP Nursery the children have opportunities to practise mindfulness at a stage/age appropriate level which impacts positively on their ability to focus and manage emotions.  Children also have the opportunity to participate in children’s yoga sessions. Healthy Eating

West Rise Community Infant School is ’healthy school’ and as such the Nursery lays foundations for healthy eating.  In 2016 and in 2018 we were proud to receive a grant from the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) programme run by East Sussex and the NHS. We have now joined the 'Healthy Active Little Ones' (HALO) programme which is designed to to support settings to build upon and enhance their approaches towards and provision of healthy eating, physical activity and wellbeing as part of a whole setting approach. We are working with our HALO co-ordinator to share good practice and useful information and we are currently working towards our HALO excellence award.

Eco Nursery

West Rise Nursery is currently working towards becoming a Plastic-Free Nursery. We are working are working with 'Surfers Against Sewerage' to help eliminate plastic pollution. The children enjoy learning about how they can help preserve our environment for generations to come and are actively involved.

Resident Artist

The children at West Rise Nursery benefit from working with an Artist in residence who works in the style of an Atelierista as in the Reggio method and approach.  This places emphasis on the process rather than the end product and has an exceptional impact on children’s ability to communicate creatively.

Music Project with Creative Futures

We have been working closely with Kate Comberti from the Creative Futures Music Project. The idea of this project is to use music and listening to support children's speech and language. We will be starting training in September 2021 in the meantime we have enjoyed benefitting from Kate's knowledge and passion during her sessions in our setting.
