Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to West Rise Community Infant & Nursery School

As Headteacher at West Rise, I am absolutely delighted to welcome you to our wonderful school.

I feel very proud to be able to hold the position of Headteacher at this happy and truly thriving community of children and staff.  I am lucky enough to work with the most amazing, committed and talented team at West Rise - I love our school and truly feel that I have the best job in the world!

Originally from Cardiff, I have been living and working in East Sussex since 2000.  In fact, I am now entering my 24th year at West Rise and my 12th year of leadership, working alongside the amazing Lynne Weir, who will be working with me as a Consultant Headteacher, one day a week. Both of my children, who are now aged 21 and 18 also attended West Rise so I suppose you could say I am a West Riser through and through!

Although, I am trained to teach all ages in Primary, it was at my first Reception placement that I fell in love with the Early Years and children of Infant School age.  I am passionate about young children’s wellbeing and learning, and in 2020, completed a Masters Degree in Mental Health and Wellbeing in Education, in order to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of how to foster children and adults wellbeing in Schools.

I hold the firm belief that if given the opportunity and the self-belief, every child has the potential to achieve and to be the very best that they can be in all areas of their lives.

At West Rise Community Infants, we work very hard together to generate a beautiful environment, which has a warm and caring atmosphere.

A place where every child and adult is valued for what they bring to the school. West Rise is a successful school with educational standards that are consistently above the National Average. Our vision at West Rise is underpinned by a belief that ‘excellence can be achieved’. It is therefore not surprising that the children and staff in our school have a commitment to striving for excellence in all that they do.

I am thrilled to be leading the school forward at this very exciting time. At West Rise the children are valued as treasured individuals and they are very special to us. Ofsted endorsed this value by judging our pastoral care as ‘outstanding’. We are proud of this judgement but wouldn’t want our care judged in any other way!

So, can I offer you a very warm welcome to our school. You can rest assured that you have chosen a fantastic school community for your child's early education. At West Rise we are very much a community and I strongly believe that the best education for a child is partnership between staff, parents and children. By working together, we will ensure that each child develops the confidence to learn and progress to achieve excellence!

OUR VISION STATEMENT

“ We believe excellence can be achieved if we care more than others think is wise, if we risk more than others think is safe, if we dream more than others think is practical, and we expect more than others think is possible."
