April 2023

There have been so many exciting activities taking place across school this April. Some of our year one and two children recently shared the experience of the unique nature of fire. In our increasingly fragmented society where technology reigns supreme, to connect with classmates and their trusted adult around a fire can be a moment of magic. In this sense we consider "magic" as a synonym for self-awareness, presence and empowerment.

The skills we teach when gathering children outside, learning in the paddock, being in nature, exploring the environment and especially being near fire, enables children to be more grounded and authentic in their daily lives, and to be more open and trusting with one another too.

Children are often fascinated by fire but equally naturally aware of its properties and potential dangers.

Reception and year one have been busy having fun planting flowers, fruits and vegetables. The raised beds, planters and pots around school will soon be looking lovely, we just need some sunshine! April has also seen the arrival of some duckling eggs in nursery and school that are currently incubating, the children are eagerly watching and waiting for the eggs to start hatching, it's all very exciting! More on this next month.

Year two recently had an amazing trip to The Observatory Science Centre! They were able to explore lots of different types of science activities, and learnt about light, space, forces and water! All the children were really engaged with the activities and thoroughly enjoyed the day!
