MindUP

We are very proud and privileged to be a MindUP school – the first in Sussex!

MindUP teaches social and emotional learning skills that link cognitive neuroscience, positive psychology and mindful awareness training in a brain centric approach.

MindUP is research based training programme for educators and children.  This programme is composed of 15 lessons based in neuroscience.  Students learn to self-regulate behaviour and mindfully engage in focused concentration required for academic success.  MindUP lessons align with all national standards including National Curriculum and support improved academic performance, while enhancing perspective taking, empathy and kindness, optimism and gratitude, as well as fostering complex problem solving skills.

The MindUP programme has already had significant impact on children’s social and emotional competence and self confidence as well as enabling increased focus and attention to learning.

On Orange table when people were not being nice I remembered what we said and just took deep breaths and carried on with my work.
When it was dance club I was worried because I hadn’t done it before and thought I couldn’t do it. My Amygdala was going crazy so I sat there, calmed my brain and had a little think about it. It was alright.
After a Mindful moment I feel powerful, confident, calm and strong.

This is underpinned and fully supported by Wellbeing First curriculum.

We believe this philosophy is vital to our work and is one of the golden threads of personal development and growth for children and staff at West Rise.  It is just one of the many unique ways that we underpin children’s development at West Rise Community Infant School.

Dear Lynne,

I visited your school on Wednesday morning with my daughter and granddaughter and just wanted to tell you how blown away I was by your school! I just loved the peaceful, warm friendly atmosphere and was so impressed by the pupils remaining on task even with a large group of adults invading their classroom.  The Peaceful Schools initiative is so evident with the MindUP programme and Massage in Schools programme running.  You are to be congratulated on an absolutely brilliant school.
