Year 1 Newsletter - Autumn Term 1 2021
Our first newsletter of the year!
We are so pleased with how beautifully the children have settled into Year One. They have all come into school independently and have settled into their new classes so well. The children spent the first few days settling into their new classroom rules and routines, and have been getting to know their new teachers.
Over the last two weeks we have spent time talking about what we are already good at and what we want to get better at as well as creating dream catchers and dream jars as we want the children to know that Year One is where your hopes and dreams come true!
As well as making the classrooms inviting and beautiful, we have been developing our many outdoor spaces for the children to use. So far they have enjoyed phonic sessions outside, arts and crafts in the outdoor classroom, lots of fun with our new water tables, the daily mile on the astro turf and role play in the Honeybee Garden! We will continue to enjoy these spaces together throughout the term.
They have also spent a lot of time learning all about the different parts of their brain and how they can use their brain to help them focus, think, remember information and keep themselves calm.
We are in the process of assessing each child’s reading to make sure that they receive the correct books - thank you for your patience as we engage each child with our new reading scheme - it is time well spent we assure you!
We are now launching into our Learning Tree Curriculum, starting off with our ‘Toys’ topic. This term children will be bringing in a toy for our ‘Toy Museum’ and we will look at the books ‘Naughty Bus’ by Jan Oke and ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’ by David Lucas. The children will also use information books to find out about toys from the past and how their toys might have looked a long time ago.
We hope that your children really enjoy Year One and look forward to seeing them being the best that they can possibly be! Thank you for your support.
