At West Rise Infants we are very fortunate to have a very supportive and active Governing Board who work alongside the Headteacher and staff to ensure that our school is a special and unique place, where expectations and standards are high.

The Governing Body is made up of 12 members. There are 2 parent Governors, 1  Authority Governor,             7 Co-opted Governors and 2 Staff Governors.  There is also a Clerk to Governors.

Our Governors are:

Ms Nicole Hartley

Co-opted Governor

Hello my name is Nicole Hartley.  My son is at St Johns Mead school. My passion and work is bringing mindfulness and yoga into schools and so I'm delighted to be offered the position of governor for this school, with all the amazing work they've done with Mindup.

I hope to bring a different perspective as well as my skills and experience from years of working in the charity sector, as a holistic counsellor and yoga teacher.

I'm looking forward to working with the other governors and staff to support the overall well-being of all the children of West Rise Infant School.

Mr Duncan Lawson

Co-opted Governor

I first became a governor when my eldest son attended West Rise Infant School. He, along with his younger brother, are now in the junior school. After almost five years as a governor I still enjoy being involved and being part of the advancement and growth of this fantastic school and its pupils.

As I am a professional photographer, you may also see me wielding a camera at school events and trips, taking pictures for the school.

Mrs Louise Cann

Co-opted Governor

My name is Louise Cann and I have been a Governor for 2 years.  My daughter Sophie attended the Infant school and has now moved up to the Juniors.  My two step daughters attended both the schools when they were younger and the eldest Amy now works in the juniors.

I have worked with children who have additional needs for twenty years both in schools and in their homes.  I have enjoyed spending time in the class rooms both as a volunteer and as a Governor and love watching how well the children develop and grow in both themselves and with their education.

I really enjoy being a part of this amazing, inspirational school and look forward to my involvement continuing into the future.

Mrs Sharon Crompton

Co-opted Governor

Hello my name is Sharon Crompton. I have lived in Eastbourne all of my life and am very proud to have worked in this unique school for over 23 years.

I was fortunate enough to become a governor of this special school several years ago and have enjoyed supporting the school through many changes. I have learnt a lot about the different aspects of running a school along the way.

My real passion is supporting children with special needs and seeing them develop and flourish.

Mr Gareth Jones

Co-opted Governor

Hello, my name is Gareth Jones and I have been the Headmaster of St Andrew’s Prep School in Eastbourne since September 2015. Before moving here I lived and worked in Oxford for sixteen years where I taught English and History, was Director of Sport and a boarding Housemaster.

I have three children and a wife who is also a teacher.

I love innovation of all kinds and I am very excited about being a Governor at West Rise Infants because I think it has a lovely atmosphere and ambition.

Mrs Gina Greaves

Co-opted Governor

Hello my name is Gina Greaves and from 1992 until 2014 I was a member of the administration staff at the School.  During those years I observed the school evolving into the very special and inspirational setting that it is today.

I am so proud to have been part of the School's development over the years and was very happy, on my retirement in 2014, to be offered the opportunity to continue my support for the whole school community by becoming a member of the Governing Board.

I have always lived locally and have a daughter and her family living nearby and a son and his family living in Western Australia.

Miss Laura Wren

Parent Governor

Hello my name is Laura and I’m very excited to step into my new role as school governor.  I have two daughters who currently attend the infant school and a son who is due to begin in the nursery in September.  Hopefully he will progress through the school too.

I have lived in Eastbourne for the majority of my life and actually attend the Infants and Juniors as a child, so am very committed to helping such a wonderful school move forward.

Mrs Elodie Vallantine

Authority Governor

Hello my name is Elodie Vallantine. I am very pleased to be a Local Authority Governor and I am enjoying working with everyone at West Rise Community Infant School, bringing my experience as a previous Chair of Governors in a primary school, to ensure children achieve their best during their time in this wonderful school.

I am passionate about education, being Head of School in Roedean Moira House in Meads, as well as a Director for the Eastbourne Education Business Partnership, a Trustee for AEGIS (the Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students), an examiner, a moderator and a teacher trainer for various examination boards.
